Referring Professionals

Thank you for your interest in the Compeer Program.

The Compeer staff expends much of its energy in recruitment, in-depth interviewing, screening, and matching of volunteers and clients. Compeer also provides a comprehensive training program, which orients the volunteer to our procedures, requirements, and goals. Relationships are monitored by Compeer on an on-going basis through monthly volunteer reports.

During the past year, thousands nationwide have been matched through Compeer and in each case we have tried to match the best possible volunteer with each individual referred to us. We have found that matches are based on mutual interests, hobbies, age of the person they wish to work with, distance between volunteer’s residence and friend’s residence and the level of an individual’s functioning in conjunction with the skill level and experience of the volunteer. Given these factors, an appropriate volunteer may not be immediately available at the time you make a referral. Therefore, a delay in matching may occur. We hope this will not happen and we will make a wise match as soon as possible.

We hope this information about our processes will be helpful to you in making a referral to Compeer. The Compeer staff and volunteer view themselves as an adjunct to your treatment plan, and look forward to working with you in the achievement of mutually agreed upon goals.
