The Lee Greene Memorial Award was established in 1972 in memory of the late Mrs. Harold Greene, a former Mental Health Association president. It is intended to encourage qualified students to enter the mental health field.

The successful applicant receives $2,000 for ten weeks of summer employment at the county operated Guidepost Continuing Treatment Center. Under this arrangement, the recipient is an Mental Health Association employee working under the supervision of Guidepost staff, which is responsible for assigning appropriate tasks that provide opportunities for learning and career development.
Applicants must be legal residents of Cattaraugus County who are full-time college students from entering junior level through graduate school. Residence is determined by tax return, drivers license, etc.. If applicant is a dependent, parent/guardian must be a legal resident. Application information is disseminated annually to area colleges and media. Each applicant is required to furnish references from an employer, a personal friend and a college professor.
Applications are screened by a committee composed of Mental Health Association board members, the Guidepost director and community volunteers. Finalists are interviewed personally before a final decision is made.
